ABOUT: PLY PROJECT

Founded in 2010 by Kenichi Sato, PLY PROJECT interlinks craft, design, and mass-production technologies with the Japanese manufacturers. These companies have been fusing traditional woodworking skills and passion. PLY PROJECT focuses on three highlights:
Intelligence:
FLEX is an integrated structure composed of systematically sliced layers of plywood and foam. The behavior and properties of each combine to provide a balanced, springy material that behaves as a single new entity.
Ergonomics:
FLEX is resilient, and to a degree, comfortable: it makes you free. FLEX Chair tolerates our individual postures, but it gently encourages us to try new ones. The chair and body supplement and define each other.
Sustainability:
The project is to re-evaluate peeled veneer materials like plywood creating sustainable solutions. With a new way of using the material, plywood becomes a smart engineered material for improving people's lives in the 21st century.
